NA'KISHA CRAWFORD

THE MILLION DOLLAR BOOK REVIEW: SO GOOD IT HURTS BY NAKISHA CRAWFORD
Title: So Good It Hurts by Na' Kisha Crawford
Reviewed by Heather Covington

Na'Kisha Crawford's new shocking tell-all relationship and advice book exposes her personal experiences with falling into loneliness and despair over looking for Mr. Right to overcoming her struggles and finding the man of her dreams through everlasting marriage, but her journey to happienss is no fairytale.

In Part One of her inspirational novel,  Crawford shares her  high school to young woman hood experiences as that girl seeking the ultimate "Bad Boy" and what all young girls seem to fall for not knowing the consequences. Her ideal man symbolized the coolness of her father's mystique, but little did she know the pain that would come from "playing with fire."

Her honest and candid novel plays out with "Real Talk" advice like a big sister who is now happily married, but can speak from  her mistakes to guide women in choosing a committed man as a partner with qualities many single women today may overlook.

Crawford talks about falling prey to sweet talk and flirtatious men and later on wanting to get serious about possibly moving in with a fellow, but with controlling ways like wanting to avoid her friendship with his friends.

These are scenarios all girls in relationships will experience and Na'Kisha simply shares in-your -face tips like, "He will do just enough to keep you hopeful, but not enough to give you much hope!" If this sounds like you,  maybe you'll want to read Crawford's book. If the situations sound like a personal friend's current life, you'll want to give this book as a gift.

A shocking revelation is exposed when Crawford finds herself having to help her friends make decisions who seem to be attracted to drug dealers, alcoholics and men who don't take care of their  children, and which encouraged her to write the book.

Crawford does not profess to have all of the answers, but  her poem at the end of her book, "Something Like a Superwoman," pretty much sums up her life in the present and all she has overcome from surviving breast cancer diagnosed at age 27 and not only accepting this challenge in her life, but with the love of her life.

All grown up, beautiful in spirit and fashion savvy like a runway literary model, Na'Kisha lives each day to the fullest as a licensed Real Estate Broker and fast on her way to becoming a top most requested motivational speaker.  I got a chance to hear Na'Kisha Crawford bring the crowd to their feet with applause and right before a film presentation tribute to legendary historian Lerone Bennett, Jr. at the African American Pavilion at Book Expo. I enjoyed her book and her motivational message. Crawford symbolizes today's SUPERWOMAN!

So Good it Hurts is COMPASSIONATE, GENUINE,  REAL and A GIRL'S TRUE BEST FRIEND from any walk of life searching for love through the pain and fight of one's past mistakes and VALIDATES those in a loving relationship who have survived the storm.  I highly recommend this well-written book.

Disilgold: What can you tell the Disilgold community about yourself that will explain why Disilgold has sought you for a perSOULnalized interview?
Na'Kisha: I was born to make a difference in the lives of others and God has given me the tools that I need to do just that.  I am young and talented, professional and savvy and I want to represent for my peers.  I have been a star for years but now it's time for the world to know it.  I am passionate, I am favored and I am on a pathway to success.
Disilgold: What is your latest book about?
Na'Kisha: In my new book So Good It Hurts: The Pain, The Fight, The Love, I share my personal triumphs in love including all of the bad choices I made in men and relationships along with the explanations I made for myself to do what I wanted to do at the time.  So Good It Hurts is a book about ultimately loving yourself better, being true to who you are and what you want and doing the work necessary to be successful in your relationship which leads to a more fulfilling life altogether.
Disilgold: How long did it take you to complete your book?
Na'Kisha: I actually started So Good It Hurts in 2004 on the way from my first book tour.  I knew that I would have to write about love.  I have since had two babies and reevaluated my life and relationships altogether therefore I was on and off.  I would estimate that the writing process itself took somewhere between 12-18 months in its entirety.
Disilgold: What were the happiest moments you have experienced while writing your latest book?
Na'Kisha: My happiest moments writing this book were in finishing it, actually pulling it all together.  I had gotten really excited at the halfway mark but I was pregnant at the time so there were indeed delays to come.  Besides that, I finished this book even after experiencing major personal obstacles that could have prevented it.
Disilgold: Describe your writing style?
Na'Kisha: Real.  My writing style is vivid and descritive yet plain and simple.
Disilgold: How did you develop your writing style?
Na'Kisha: I am passionate about my work and my writing reflects that.  I put a piece of me into everything I do.
Disilgold: Do you have a favorite author of all time or someone who inspired you to achieve your goals as a writer?
Na'Kisha:  I do not have a favorite but I really like Stedman Graham and Terrie Williams.
Disilgold: Where do you see yourself as a writer ten years from now?
Na'Kisha: I see myself as a Renowned Motivational Speaker and Author of several non-fiction best selling books.
Disilgold: What marketing tips can you provide to new authors?
Na'Kisha: Presentation is key. Always be professional and represent well.  Be diligent in doing research to get your work into the marketplace in every way that you can and share it with everyone that you come across.  It doesn't matter how great it is if noone knows about it.
Disilgold: What other projects are you working on?
Na'Kisha: I am also working on a Docu-Reality film DVD project called Real Talk Love which combines 3 open forums where young Black men and women (in the 30s or so) speak candidly about love and relationship issues together.  Please visit
www.realtalklove.com for more information on this project.
Disilgold: What are your top ten favorite books right now?
Na'Kisha: I have been engulfed in one for a while So Good It Hurts and right now, it is my favorite!
Disilgold:When do you write and for how long?
Na'Kisha: I write whenever I am moved to write.  I am a night person and usually do most of my creative thinking in the late night hours.
Disilgold: Do you have a favorite location for writing?
Na'Kisha: I enjoy writing in my office.
Disilgold: What method did you use to write or organize your book?
Na'Kisha:  I believe it is most important to start.  I usually write and write and write and worry about organizing chapters and such later.  I like to divide my books into (3) parts and usually I am able to think more clearly after that.  Chapter titles come to me while I am writing sometimes and other times they come after I have written a certain section.  I would advise new authors or authors to be to write first and organize later.
Disilgold:What three words best describe your writing style?
Na'Kisha: Candid, Descriptive and Straight-forward.
Disilgold: What other hobbies do you pursue when you aren't writing ?
Na'Kisha: I enjoy public speaking and do it whenever I get an opportunity and I like to step (as in sorority stepping).  I'm very social so I like getting together with friends and having grown up conversation.
Disilgold: Are there any hidden jewels or talents that you possess that many of your readers may not know?
Na'Kisha: I have a keen business sense and I love hip hop.  I consider an appreciation for both things to require something special.
Disilgold: Where can folks buy your latest book?
Na'Kisha: Amazon.com and online bookstores, Barnes & Noble, Borders and your local bookstores.
Disilgold: Where can folks meet you?
Na'Kisha:  I will be on tour to many cities doing book signings and Real Talk Love forums but for starters, visit my website at
www.sogoodithurts.com -I'm here all of the time.
Disilgold: What have been some of your toughest obstacles as a writer?
Na'Kisha:  Finding a literary publicist who services my target has been extremely difficult and the greatest obstacle has been being new.  People don't like to believe in you until others do which makes it difficult to get support but you just have to believe in yourself and push forward anyway.

Na'Kisha: I want to visit Monaco and St. Tropez to name a few.
Disilgold: What do you particularly like about the literary world today?
Na'Kisha: I love that the internet has brought regular people even closer to the industry.  More real stories are being accepted and more truth is being revealed which means that growth is underway.
Disilgold: If you could leave one word of advice to people in general, what would it be?
Na'Kisha: Noone thinks that one person can make a great change but at the bottom of a great change is the thought of one person so dream what you want to dream.

"Hip, well written, and a daring truth-telling memoir, So Good It Hurts by Na'kisha Crawford is every woman's handbook on "Real Talk" issues from singlehood to marriagehood and all of the expectations between as told by an African-American woman. Crawford shares her revelations upon trying to find Mr. Right in her young adulthood during the 1990's , but was confronted by men who fit that "bad boy" image. Upon finding God, she learned that she first had to  "love herself" before making a spiritual connection with a man, and thus avoid abusive relationships.

Crawford states,  "Love doesn’t work without faith. Love is manifested via the spirit, so pay attention and you’ll find out all you want to know. Require the God that is in you to be treated better, and you won’t allow people to treat you badly."

Na'Kisha Crawford's message in So Good It Hurts is sisterly information every woman can use and every man can read to understand that today's woman is learning to love herself before accepting  new relationships. It's a journey that will enlighten and validate every woman on a quest to find real love. PROVOCATIVE! BOLD! NECESSARY! One of the best  self-renewal advice books is born!
